A Wonderful Parade

A Wonderful Parade

Hi Everyone!

It was wonderful to see so many people attending the Parade and Service of Remembrance.  Thank you to all the young members and volunteers who joined us.  Your presence and respect helped to make this a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives in service for our country.  The Cubs made poppies for the planters, and 23 poppy crosses, one for each of the fallen named on our memorial.  The Scouts have also been crafting, and painted some beautiful remembrance pebbles, which have been placed on the memorial.

SQUIRRELS

The Squirrels have continued the busy start to the term, working towards more badges and learning about the world around us. At the end of October we found out about Diwali. They all learnt how to do some traditional Indian dance moves and did a Diwali dance, which they were all amazing at. We have also learnt about Remembrance day and took part in the Remembrance Sunday Parade. We’re looking forward to the next few weeks and the run up to Christmas.

BEAVERS

Hunsdon Beavers have been extremely busy working on quite a few badges. As well as making paper origami poppies for remembrance, we have been learning about what to do in an accident, how to treat minor cuts, and learning how to place a casualty in the recovery position. Of course we managed to fit in some Halloween fun and games, and team challenges. Coming up we’ve planned a visit to Harlow Fire Station when we’ll be learning more about safety. But most of all we are all looking forward to our famous Drive Thru Sleepover and our Beavers Christmas café coming up on the last session in December.

CUBS

This term we’ve enjoyed some autumn activities, collecting leaves from The Dell to make compost as part of our Environmental Badge and celebrated World Earthworm day.  We’re been working on our Global Issues badge, with just one more task left to do. The Cubs like to do 1 or 2 craft activities each term, and this time is always busy with extra themes to work on.  We made some lovely Halloween lanterns, the poppy crosses, and we’re looking forward to a Christmas Tree themed session soon.

With so many Cubs in the pack we need at least 4 adults every week to make sure we are supporting everyone in the best way.  If anyone would like to come and lend a hand, even if only occasionally for setting up, or being an extra pair of eyes on something, please get in touch.  No previous experience is necessary.

SCOUTS

We’ve had a busy few weeks with pumpkin carving and poppy pebble painting for remembrance. We’re  looking forward to a big camp this weekend for our annual Green Beret competition at Phasels Wood, Hemel Hempstead. The Troop will soon be out on a night hike with some activity bases, which should be fun. You can’t beat some outdoor cooking!  We’re also doing some more work on our Money Skills badge which is quite involved, including finding out about digital currencies, how to keep money safe, making smart choices, different types of bank account, credit, debit, loans, and how to spot scams!

If there are any ex-Scouts in the village who would like to come and join the team it would be great to hear from you.
